Community Day is an annual event held on the second Saturday in January to celebrate our beginning. It is an outpouring of LOVE from LifeSong to bless our neighbors as we have been blessed. Everything is FREE and we prepare to serve 150-200 people at the event. Nearly all LifeSong members participate in some way before or during the event. Flyers are posted in businesses and handed out door-to-door in advance, inviting people to come- ALL are welcome! Our guests register when they come in and then are able to partake of all that has been gathered and is offered at the event. We have childcare in the nursery, activities for children in the kids’ room, haircuts, manicures, health services, groceries, hygiene and laundry products, diapers/wipes, new and gently used and cleaned (by Clean Jeans) clothing items, shoes, firewood and a delicious hot lunch. When our guests leave, we want them to have full sacks of groceries, full tummies and BIG smiles on their faces and the volunteers faces- it is a humbling experience to be the hands and feet of Jesus. On this day we share Jesus’ love by our words and actions, offering hope, encouragement and help. We extend invitations to join us in the many ministries at LifeSong. On January 9, 2021, we served more than 170 individuals and families. Meeting people and helping them pickup goods changed from an inside the building activity to serving people in their cars.
We had 6-8 greeters meeting people in their cars and helping them select items on our registration form, while asking if they had a desire for prayer or other assistance. While in line and awaiting pickup of their goods, we had opportunities for other people to meet and greet them and ask if they needed prayer. We had at least one person turn their life over to Christ while waiting in line. Many people asked for prayer and were prayed for twice or more. The opportunity to meet and pray with people in this scenario was meaningful and very powerful.
